I tell my kid all the time, she watches iCarly. That’s like great, and enjoy it. But I’ll be honest with you man, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in life is that you could watch iCarly or you could write iCarly. If you write iCarly you’re fucking in charge man. And when you write it, it doesn’t have to just sit in the drawer and go nowhere. We know people in this world. We’ll push, just drive and do it. Stop being entertained, go out and be entertaining.

When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth.

The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most damaged people are the wisest. All because they do not wish to see anyone else suffer the way they do.

Words do not express thoughts very well. They always become a little different immediately after they are expressed, a little distorted, a little foolish.

If we take eternity to mean … timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present. Our life has no end.

Money cannot be made except by the most vulgar methods. The studious man is pronounced impractical and is suspected as a visionary.
[We must take a] stand for an open world, with unhampered opportunities for common enlightenment and mutual understanding.
Quote with 1 note
As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.

Of everything I have seen,
it’s you I want to go on seeing:
of everything I’ve touched,
it’s your flesh I want to go on touching.
I love your orange laughter.
I am moved by the sight of you sleeping.

Life is a question of nerves, and fibres, and slowly built-up cells in which thought hides itself and passion has its dreams. You may fancy yourself safe and think yourself strong. But a chance tone of colour in a room or a morning sky, a particular perfume that you had once loved and that brings subtle memories with it, a line from a forgotten poem that you had come across again, a cadence from a piece of music that you had ceased to play… I tell you, that it is on things like these that our lives depend.

It’s worth remembering that the act of discovery does not require that you understand, either in advance or after the fact, what you’ve discovered.

Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don’t blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being “in love”, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.
